For The Students of Next Semester
Welcome to the best class at Trinity! This is a very easy class to earn an A or A- if you just show up to class and pay attention to what Ms. Belisle has to say. Do your Homework, it doesn't take long, and you will recieve a great grade for participation!
Blog Entry One
There were many great websites, but I liked a few in particular. I like Zach Lambert's because I really enjoy watching the basketball team here at Trinity University, and he had a lot of funny pictures about the basketball team and it was very interesting. I also really liked Shelby's website because it did a great job of showing her personality, and would really give someone a great impression of what she was like if they diddnt know her. And lastly, I really enjoyed Alli's website because I also like to ride horses. She did a great job on her website design and looks like she spent a lot of time on her website.

My Website Blog!
Please visit my website I thought making this website was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I did spend a lot of time on the project, but I thought we were going to have to use code for the whole website at first. If I had to do that, my coded website would have looked a lot less professional. I used Expressions Web to do my website because that's what we spent most time on in class, and I didn't want to redo the project. The athletics page made me most proud because I really like the animations. Also on the athletics page is the Mississippi miracle play, which I really enjoy to watch. If I could change something, I would change the background on all the pages to a cool picture instead of plain maroon. I could not find out a picture that actually looked good, so I just used a color background instead. My biggest technical challenge was the nav bar with pictures and hot spots. It was really hard to size all the pictures, and I basically used that whole work day on my nav bar. Props to Brittany for giving me a helping hand when I needed it! My biggest design challenge was was the animation GIF's. For some reason I could not erase the white behind the GIF's. It would look a lot better if I could figure that out! I will show my site to any incoming freshmen that want to understand the life of a Trinity student. (I will also show my family since I am so proud of course...)I would definitely think about creating a website for a resume of mine. I believe it would be really easier to send possible companies my link to my website. Could be and upcoming event this summer maybe! I had a great time doing this project!! :)

Visit from Larry Hechler
Larry Hechler came to visit last thursday, and he really knew his stuff about technology. I currently have an apple Mac Book Pro, and he gave some great tips on how to take care of your laptop. He said that I should backup my computer on a monthly basis, so I do not lose all my hard work so far. I also learned that I need to clean my screen with a special soft rag, so I do not damage the LCD screen. Trinity provides any current student a y-drive that they can back up their computer into. He said do not back up porn lol because he has software on the database to seek those people out and get them into a lot of trouble. I basically learned porn is bad. It seemed like he like Dell laptops a lot better. If I had a child going to college, I would probably buy my kid a dell laptop because of their ability to get you a new laptop if it breaks. I think he said this deal lasts for four years, so college is a worry free time of laptops i guess lol. Larry really knew a lot about hardware, and if I ever have any troubles with my mac, he will be the first person I go to!

Powerpoint experience
I had a lot of trouble with this powerpoint because the MAC powerpoint was not very compatible with the PC powerpoint software. I the main thing that would not work was the gif, so I had to do this gif over again in the library with PC computers. The powerpoint presentation did not take as long as I thought it would, and it turned out to look really good. The GIF was worth the time because it helped me recieve a good grade. I did love to talk about the topic of pole vaulting because I did it all four years in high school. I had a great time and earned a lot of medals.
I thought Ali's powerpoint was the best in the class about levitating. She really made it look easy, but I bet its really not. She did a great job. It really looked like she was levitating.

Picture that Lies
I chose a picture of Carrie Underwood because she is very beautiful, and I also enjoy listening to her music. I got this picture off a google search and just copied the photo. I manipulated the photo by enhancing the quality and making her seem like she was thinking about me. The manipulation was not harmful because it is very obvious that this picture is only a joke, and that she's is not really thinking about me because she has never met me! This relates to the article I chose below because there are no guidelines on the use of the photo, and it was only used as a funny joke.
Sally Stapleton, a senior AP photo editor, said it's up to newspapers to decide how to use a photograph. "We are presenting reality (but) we have no guidelines on use. We have an internal policy that we do not change photography," she said.
Noack, David. "Taste or manipulation?." Editor & Publisher 131.33 (1998): 13. Academic Search Complete. EBSCO. Web. 3 Apr. 2011.

Chris Nolan's Presentation
A .com sites are commercial and are trying to sell a product. These sites are less scholerly than something like NASA.gov. A (.gov) website is very scholerly because the government has created this website. Usually with a (.gov) website, there is an author who has their doctorate in the topics information and is usually pretty credible. If you attach a (-.com) to the end of your search, the only hits that will be presented will be everything but .com hits. You will see some .nets, .edu, .gov, ect. • If you use google scholar, you will get much more scholerly articles. It will also present the number of citations. Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Way to move their search results up the list of keyword hit.Google is great for specific information. If a topic is more broad, a encyclopedia or library resource would be a lot more effective. Wikipedia can have false information if enough people agree with the web page. Be cautious when using a Wikipedia article. These articles do not have an author. Credible sites could have an author, publisher, intended purpose/audience, Objectivity, Substantiation for claims, and Recency of information.

Reasons to hate Powerpoint
Power Points have become very boring because people do not understand how to keep their audiences interested. There are many things people should stay away from so they their audience doesn't have death by power-point, like the video above.
PowerPoint users should not try to cram so much information on one slide. If I cant read it from the back of the room, then there's too many words and the font is terrible. If its more than a couple sentences, i'm not going to want to read it!
PowerPoint users should never try to use crazy font that is unprofessional. The crazy curly fonts is not cute, and you definitely lose you professionalism.
Some power points focus way to hard on the entrance effects of the information that it becomes to crazy to watch. If i have to take an Advil after your presentation, than it had way to many effects!
Power point users should keep their slideshows simple and short and to the point. I hate watching powerpoints that are 30 slides long and have way too much information. Know your material before hand, so you can summarized the information. Do not read directly from the screen! Your reading voice puts me to sleep!

Field Trip to CLT
Our field trip to the CLT was very educational. I have already used this knowledge for a different class. For my marketing class, we needed our advertisement to be scanned, so we could all have a copy. I took our group to the CLT and got the job done in no time. The CLT has some high-tec stuff! They even created their own version of skype that can talk to any user who dowloads their software. They have a room that someone could use to do a interview accross the nation to some company via their skype system!I also learned that CLT has video cameras and camcorders if I ever need to use one of those for another class. ALl I have to do is check one out and return it that day! CLT has about the same number of MAC's and PC's, so they are familiar with all types of computers if someone needs help with their own laptop. Robert Chapman was a great guy to meet, and he taught us all about the CLT perfectly. This room is on the first floor of the library, so i highly suggest visiting there to improve any work that any student needs. This self portrait I am about to show only took 15 seconds, so don't JUDGE me!

Excel Blog Entry
I have learned so much about Excel in the short two weeks of learning about it. I can now make statistics using the formulas that excel provides. Any gradesheet that I would like to make for my classes, any Calender I would like to create, or any other list of resources that I want to use. This is my first time using excel so it is very exciting to learn all of these new things. I really like how easy it is to average a set of data. This makes things so much easier than imputing into a calculator. If I were still in a math class, this would have been an amazing tool to use. I do not like how excel is extreamely different on a Mac, rather than a PC. I am really glad I am in this class, or I would be without this wonderful tool of Excel!

OJ Simpson Photo Manipulation
I chose the picture of O.J. Simpson because his case is famous, and there is much to be learned from him. He also was a really good football player, and that makes him interesting to me. This picture originated as a mugshot in jail, where Newsweek Magazine put the original photo up. Time Magazine altered the picture to look a lot more dark and guilty looking. Many shadow effects were used and the picture was just darkened in general. This picture was darkened to make him look like a scary man that had allegedly murdered someone, but got away with it. I believe this picture was harmful because it took a man, made him look way more scary than he was in the original to persuade people that he is a bad human being. They say innocent until proven guilty, and he was never proven guilty. This man does not deserve humiliation like this.
I really liked the movie avatar. I thought it was really cool that all of these people are really people but just photoshoped onto screen like this. Its amazing what photoshop can do!

Facebook Dangers
Facebook Dangers
The college student deserved to get turned down by the law firm. I know for certain if I find any pictures of myself that could potentially hurt my future; I would always ask the owner of the picture to take it down because of the terrible things that could happen, like losing a job opportunity. If this person was your true friend, they would realize their huge mistake and take the photos down instantly. Friends should look out for each other and make sure that each other look good. I have heard that many businesses do a routine background check like the one in situation B, and Facebook is one of the first things people look at. Facebook is kind of like an interview in itself. Facebook provides what you look like, your preference, your sexual orientation, your political views, your religion, who your friends are, and a basic understanding of what your life is about. People need to be really careful on what they put on the internet because everyone has access. People should always be watching their image and should be aware of others trying to knock them down. This student could have been set up with one of the most prestigious law firms, but his past ruined everything. “Our self image, strongly held, essentially determines what we become” (Thinkexist.com). This quote accurately explains that we are building our future every day; we can only be as successful as we make ourselves out to be. This student should avoid cameras if they decide to put themselves in a bad situation. My parents always said to take myself out of a situation that could harm me, and that would be my advice to this student. This student does not have any legal resource, because anything that is put on Facebook is no longer their property. The picture belongs to the company that owns the website, and all rights are signed away when the picture is put online. The company allows other people to copy and paste this picture to anywhere else on the World Wide Web. It was not ethical of the friend to take and publish the photos without the student’s permission, but things like this happen, and the fault lies with the person whose image is ruined. I feel truly bad for people that are damaged by cases like this. I once saw a TV show where the ex-boyfriend had pictures of this girl naked, and he was forced to give them back to her, but someone anonymously posted them on the internet for everyone to see. That’s the problem, once things are put on the internet, they cannot be erased, and it is hard to officially get them in trouble. This person is obviously a very bad friend and is not looking out for the best interest of his or her friend. I know for sure if I had a picture of someone else that was doing something illegal, I would feel ethically wrong and defiantly would not post it on the internet for everyone to see. It was ethical of the firm to share the reason for his disqualification because everyone deserves to know why they are denied from something. This way, that person can change their flaws and remove their skeletons from their closet. It is a shame that this person got ripped off out of an awesome job at a prestigious law firm, but he can learn in the future that his actions have consequences. He or she does not really even deserve that good of a job if they were dumb enough to do illegal drugs and get caught on camera doing those illegal drugs. Intelligent people are always looking out their social wellbeing, and this student needs to try again with a new company. He or she could go to the company and explain that happened a long time ago and beg for his or her job, but their first impression is that he or she is a complete loser and is a stoner. On the other hand, they could try to play it off like it was not a big deal and that many people did drugs in college, and it was before he was a mature college graduate. The student now has learned about the subject of self image the hard way, and now has to live with his mistakes and face the consequences.

Copyright and Creative Commons
An issue that has recently caused some trouble for college students is file sharing to steal songs from the internet. Copyright means government recognition protecting someone’s intellectual property. Copyright infringement is a crime, and copyright is where you copy exactly someone else’s work. They can find anyone that is illegally file sharing by identifying their I.P. address. This individual code can trace anyone’s activity back to their computer that they did the file sharing on. These activities can result in lawsuits and could be very costly in the thousands of dollars. Yes, a lot of kids get away with file sharing and stealing songs off the interenet, but if you are summoned, it could potentially cost you thousands of dollars. The free songs that you get from the internet is not worth the risk. The main lesson from today is that if you do not pay for it, you cannot listen or watch it. It is very easy for the hackers to find your theft of songs, so it would be wise to not steal in the first place!

My Trinity Network Diagram
My network diagram displays Trinity's LAN network, and the processes on how it works. The Ruth Taylor is the core of the network. From the Ruth Taylor building, there are fiber optic cables running to each of the buildings' data closets. From the data closets, there are ethernet cords running to each individual room. Pretty complex system huh? :)

Trinity MyStErY Spot
I chose this location for my photo because it was very close to where I live, and it's next to a great place to study. I altered the picture using picnik, and i chose to invert the colors. I was browsing through the color changes, and I liked the one that looked like the colors of cotton candy.
Best Tech Tip (6)
Hello everyone!!
I learned a lot from Joe Hatch about the computer systems at Trinity and my computer in general. One thing I always thought was that MAC computers could not get a virus, but I was wrong. I learned that MAC users should install Onyx that helps clean the computer of unnecessary data and spy ware. I am going to download this function very soon so I can continue to have a virus-free computer.

Network Server Diagram
This is a very useful system. The Y drive is a great place to put your own confidential work. The groups folder is a good folder to communicate information between a student and a teacher. The class folder is a great folder for the entire class to access information about homework :)
